Florida Studio Theatre Scene Shop Door

Tucked away on the charming campus of the Florida Studio Theatre of Sarasota, Florida is a small wall with a door leading to the company's scene shop.  I was given the opportunity to bring a bit of whimsical fun to this area.  I painted a mural on the actual doors and the wall mimicking open studio doors and William Shakespeare standing nearby.  For this project, a brought along a budding artist and had a great time teaching mural painting to a typically canvas only painter.  It was great practice to have an assistant and balancing giving direction with letting the other artist shine creatively.

We started painting the wall brick red and sketching in open doors in chalk on the doors.  My assistant began applying horizontal grout lines for the brick

The inner scene is based in loosely and the bricks are textured and stained with darker hues.

Smirking William Shakespeare is added as well as more details in the interior scene.  A gargoyle is being added currently.
